Lawrence Kagan is a UCLA honors graduate, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry. He received his medical training at USC Keck School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In addition to passionately studying neonatal, general pediatrics, and adolescent medicine at CHLA, he had the opportunity to train under some of the greatest minds in subspecialty pediatrics, diagnosing and managing the rarest and most complicated childhood ailments. Prior to opening Westside Pediatrics, he worked as an attending physician at the CHLA Emergency Department as well as at Cedars Sinai Urgent Care. Dr. Kagan is a native of Los Angeles. He and his wife, Cathy, currently live in Pacific Palisades with their two children, Reese and Colin.

Dr. Leila grew up in Fresno, California. She attended UC Irvine for her undergraduate degree in the Biological Sciences. She then completed a masters in Applied Physiology at the Rosalind Franklin University of Science & Medicine in Chicago and continued there to complete her medical degree. In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to complete her residency training at LA-County USC. All throughout her training Dr. Leila has been involved in research. Dr. Leila believes that critical thinking in medicine is a crucial aspect of optimal care. After training, she practiced in various private practices and at Kaiser Permanente Urgent care in West Los Angeles. In 2012, she decided to begin her own practice. Dr. Shaham received her Bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in Inter-Disciplinary Studies, Environmental Science. Afterward she obtained her Master’s degree in Regulatory Science from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. This led to a position in clinical research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. While working there, Cigal realized research was not enough for her and she decided to go to medical school. Dr. Shaham says, “I love medicine because it allows me to be a scientist, teacher, and detective every day, as well as help the next generation of children grow up healthy and happy.” Dr. Shaham received her M.D. from the Ben-Gurion University Medical School for International Health in Collaboration with Columbia University Medical Center. Upon graduation, she was presented with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Medical School for International Health. After completing her training, Dr. Shaham was overjoyed to move back to Los Angeles with her family, and obtain privileges at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she sees newborn babies. She spent the first 5 and a half years working with Dr. Guy Efron and Dr. Kimberly Klausner at Roxbury Pediatrics in Beverly Hills. Dr. Shaham is now practicing with Dr. Monica Asnani at Miracle Mile Pediatrics. Dr. Krasnoff is a Board Certified Pediatrician, practicing in Encino since 1985.  He grew up in the San Fernando Valley, attending El Camino Real High School. He was a Biology major at Stanford University and studied medicine at U.S.C. He then did his Pediatric Residency at  Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, followed by a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine, also at C.H.L.A. He was one of the three founding doctors of this practice in 1987, which has since grown to eight Pediatricians and a staff of 20 dedicated and wonderful nurses, front office and business personnel. Dr. Catherine Jin grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio where she graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology. Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in pediatrics early on, she received her medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she had the opportunity to work with children with rare and complex medical conditions at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Mozumder is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in both the primary care and acute care setting. She received her nurse practitioner degree from Yale University in 2008 after which she returned to her native state of California. She worked in the hospital setting specializing in pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery for 8 years at a number of academic medical centers including Stanford Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Word of Health would like to recognize the important work that top optometrists are doing in the San Diego County in treating patients.

Dr. Amanda Dexter

Dr. Amanda Dexter received her training at Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California, where she was the class of 2010’s Valedictorian and former President of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society. Dr. Dexter completed residency training at the VA San Diego Healthcare System in La Jolla where she gained an extensive clinical experience in ocular disease, geriatrics, traumatic brain injury and low vision rehabilitation. Dr. Dexter is a past president of the San Diego County Optometric Society where she actively participates in local vision screenings for underprivileged children. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Olivia Do completed her undergraduate degree at McGill University in Montreal, Quebec in 2003. Raised in San Diego, Dr. Esfandiari did his undergraduate work at the University of California, San Diego. He received his doctorates in optometry from New England college of Optometry in Boston. Dr. Esfandiari’s current areas of emphasis include primary eye care, specialty contact lenses, refractive surgery consultation, surgical co-management.  Dr. Esfandiari’s knowledge and experience in ophthalmic optics has continually helped patients obtain optimal and healthy vision. Dr. Jared Hagan

Dr. Jared Hagan was born in Rochester, Minnesota, where he attended Mayo High School. Shortly after school he joined the United States Air Force as an aircraft mechanic. He was stationed at Fairchild AFB Washington and from there deployed to numerous remote locations. During his service, Dr. Hagan earned a Bachelors of Science in Aeronautics from Embry Riddle Aeronautical School and was honorably discharged. After obtaining the necessary prerequisite classes for Optometry School, he applied to Pacific University. Dr. Hagan was accepted to Pacific University’s College of Optometry in the spring of 2007. Optometry school consists of three years of rigorous academic study and one year of guided practice under supervision. After graduation, three board exams and annual continuing education must be taken in order to maintain a license to practice. Dr. Klein is originally from the Washington, D.C. area and has been a San Diego “native” since 1989. The field of podiatry strives to prevent, diagnose, and treat the health of the lower legs and the feet. These areas of the body are significant as they grant us mobility and allow us to perform day-to-day tasks. Podiatrists ensure than common issues including calluses, warts, and plantar fasciitis are treated effectively to maintain proper pressure and support around the feet area.

Word of Health would like to recognize a few of these podiatrists for the wonderful work they have done in the Orange County area.

  1. Dr. Ebonie Vincent, D.P.M.

Dr. Ebonie Vincent, DPM is a highly trained foot and ankle surgeon in Orange County, California. She has extensive experience in the latest treatments for foot and ankle conditions and specializes in minimally invasive surgical techniques, corrective and reconstructive foot and ankle surgery, diabetic limb salvage, pediatric foot condition and sports medicine.  Dr. Vincent is a native of Temecula, California yet completed her undergraduate education at Hampton University in Virginia, a Masters of Biomedical Science at Philadelphia college of osteopathic medicine in Philadelphia, Pa, and completed her Doctor of Podiatric medicine degree at Des Moines University in Des Moines, Iowa. She went on to complete a 3-year residency program at Inspira Health network in Vineland, New Jersey.  Dr. Vincent has co- authored several research articles, with published articles in the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy (JOSPT). She has won research awards for poster and oral presentations through research presented at Des Moines University. 2. Dr. David Petersen, D.P.M.

Dr. David Petersen was raised in Westminster, California where he graduated from La Quinta High School.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from Brigham Young University in 1994. Dr. Petersen earned his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine in 1998 from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco.  He completed his residency training in podiatric medicine and foot surgery at the University of Southern California/L.A. County Hospital. He followed this with a 2 year fellowship in Advanced Foot & Ankle Surgery in Irvine, California. Dr. Petersen has practiced in Orange County since 1998 and is currently associated with the American, California, and Orange County Chapters of Podiatric Medical Associations.  He is an Eagle Scout and loves playing basketball, soccer, and beach volleyball. He has coached soccer in AYSO, AYSO Extra and the Elite signature soccer league over the past 10 years. He also enjoys playing the piano and organ at his local church. He and his wife have four children.

3. Dr. Charles Baik, D.P.M.
