A child’s most critical ages in healthy development are when they are the youngest and need the most care. That’s why these pediatricians specialize in working with infants, teens, to early adulthood.
Word of Health would like to recognize these few individuals who are expertises in the physical, emotional, and social development of children.
1. Lawrence Kagan, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Lawrence Kagan is a UCLA honors graduate, with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry. He received his medical training at USC Keck School of Medicine and completed his internship and residency in Pediatrics at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. In addition to passionately studying neonatal, general pediatrics, and adolescent medicine at CHLA, he had the opportunity to train under some of the greatest minds in subspecialty pediatrics, diagnosing and managing the rarest and most complicated childhood ailments. Prior to opening Westside Pediatrics, he worked as an attending physician at the CHLA Emergency Department as well as at Cedars Sinai Urgent Care. Dr. Kagan is a native of Los Angeles. He and his wife, Cathy, currently live in Pacific Palisades with their two children, Reese and Colin.
2. Leila Bozorgnia, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Dr. Leila grew up in Fresno, California. She attended UC Irvine for her undergraduate degree in the Biological Sciences. She then completed a masters in Applied Physiology at the Rosalind Franklin University of Science & Medicine in Chicago and continued there to complete her medical degree. In 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to complete her residency training at LA-County USC. All throughout her training Dr. Leila has been involved in research. Dr. Leila believes that critical thinking in medicine is a crucial aspect of optimal care. After training, she practiced in various private practices and at Kaiser Permanente Urgent care in West Los Angeles. In 2012, she decided to begin her own practice. Dr. Leila is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She speaks Farsi and Spanish as well. When she is not practicing Medicine, Dr. Leila’s hobbies include, spending time with her husband and their dog, cooking, running on the beach or the Santa Monica stairs, and Skiing.
3. Cigal Shaham, M.D., M.Sc, F.A.A.P.
Dr. Shaham received her Bachelor’s degree with honors from the University of California at Berkeley, majoring in Inter-Disciplinary Studies, Environmental Science. Afterward she obtained her Master’s degree in Regulatory Science from the University of Southern California School of Pharmacy. This led to a position in clinical research at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. While working there, Cigal realized research was not enough for her and she decided to go to medical school. Dr. Shaham says, “I love medicine because it allows me to be a scientist, teacher, and detective every day, as well as help the next generation of children grow up healthy and happy.” Dr. Shaham received her M.D. from the Ben-Gurion University Medical School for International Health in Collaboration with Columbia University Medical Center. Upon graduation, she was presented with the Dean’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Medical School for International Health. After completing her training, Dr. Shaham was overjoyed to move back to Los Angeles with her family, and obtain privileges at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where she sees newborn babies. She spent the first 5 and a half years working with Dr. Guy Efron and Dr. Kimberly Klausner at Roxbury Pediatrics in Beverly Hills. Dr. Shaham is now practicing with Dr. Monica Asnani at Miracle Mile Pediatrics. Dr. Shaham spends her spare time being the Class Mom, watching her son do Kung-Fu, building structures and inventing science projects with him, reading fiction, wasting time on the internet, and exploring Los Angeles.
4. Dr. Guy Efron, M.D.
Dr. Guy Efron received his Medical Degree from Tel Aviv University, Sackler Faculty School of Medicine after receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of California at Berkeley. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the highly acclaimed Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. Dr. Efron is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and was given the distinguished honor of being named Cedars-Sinai’s Pediatrician of the Year, 2008. Dr. Guy Efron is an extremely well trained pediatric physician who treats his patients with the same care and sensitivity he provides for his own children. He demonstrates his passion for personal care by visiting newborns in the hospital within a day of their birth and by making sure that everyone who calls his office can speak to him personally. Dr. Guy Efron is committed to providing his patients with quality health advice, guidance, and treatment.
5. Dr. Lydia Elias, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Dr. Lydia Elias has been practicing Pediatric medicine since 2005. She graduated from UCSF-Fresno Pediatric Residency and is board certified in Pediatrics. She is also on Clinical Faculty at Western University of Health Sciences Medical School. Dr. Elias is on the medical staff of both Torrance Memorial Medical Center and Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center. Dr. Elias has more than 10 years of pediatric practice experience. She is well versed in all areas of pediatrics and has a special interest in Child Behavior and Development. She is the Founder of the fast-growing Practice Lighthouse Pediatrics in 2011. Now that she is married and has 3 young children, she is excited to be a mother and a pediatrician where she is able to relate to her patients better. Dr. Elias also speaks Spanish, and she works hard to accommodate every patients’ healthcare needs, by being available and more educational.
6. Andrew Krasnoff, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Dr. Krasnoff is a Board Certified Pediatrician, practicing in Encino since 1985. He grew up in the San Fernando Valley, attending El Camino Real High School. He was a Biology major at Stanford University and studied medicine at U.S.C. He then did his Pediatric Residency at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, followed by a fellowship in Adolescent Medicine, also at C.H.L.A. He was one of the three founding doctors of this practice in 1987, which has since grown to eight Pediatricians and a staff of 20 dedicated and wonderful nurses, front office and business personnel. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatrics and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is married over 30 years and has raised two strapping young men, now in their 20’s. Dr. Krasnoff sees patients from the day of birth through the age of 24. He feels blessed with his life and his career and plans to continue in practice for many years to come.
7. Catherine Jin, M.D., F.A.A.P.
Dr. Catherine Jin grew up in the suburbs of Cleveland, Ohio where she graduated from Case Western Reserve University in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and Psychology. Knowing she wanted to pursue a career in pediatrics early on, she received her medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, where she had the opportunity to work with children with rare and complex medical conditions at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She later moved to California to join her husband and completed her residency training at the University of California, Irvine and Children’s Hospital of Orange County. Dr. Jin enjoys caring for children of all ages and guiding patients and their families to create the best possible environment for healthy growth and development. She believes strongly in promoting healthy lifestyles, counseling on preventative medicine, and practicing family-centered care. Outside of work, Dr. Jin enjoys spending time with her husband, playing tennis, and exploring new restaurants around her home in Los Angeles.
8. Kaberi Mozumder, P.N.P.
Dr. Mozumder is a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with over 10 years of experience in both the primary care and acute care setting. She received her nurse practitioner degree from Yale University in 2008 after which she returned to her native state of California. She worked in the hospital setting specializing in pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery for 8 years at a number of academic medical centers including Stanford Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. She then returned to the outpatient setting in 2016 working in primary care with an underserved community in Long Beach. She joined MVP Pediatric & Urgent Care in March of 2018. Kaberi enjoys working with children of all ages and also has a passion for medical relief work abroad. She assisted in disaster relief work in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake and in Greece during the migrant crisis of 2016. Kaberi is fluent in Spanish and enjoys hobbies such as traveling, cooking, and spending time with her Shih-Tzu Timmy.
9. Houman Kashani, M.D.
Dr. Kashani (on the left) began his undergraduate studies at UCLA where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Sciences and graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He continued his graduate studies at the Northwestern School of Medicine, in Chicago, IL, which at the time was rated the top 10 medical schools in the nation. He then successfully completed his internship and residency at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in family medicine. After he graduated from residency, Dr. Kashani worked in various Emergency Rooms and Urgent care departments of Hospitals. He has treated over tens of thousands of patients.
10. Edmond Sarraf, M.D.
Dr. Edmond Sarraf, better known as “Dr. Ed”, graduated his residency program from Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron, Ohio in 2004. He later went on to complete and get certified as a homeopath as well as finish several courses at the Institute of Functional Medicine in order to do sub-specialized testing and get to the root cause of disease. Dr. Ed started his career as a “traditional doctor” in very busy traditional practices. During that time, he knew that simply prescribing medicines was not his only calling as a doctor. That is when he decided to leave everything behind and move back home to LA, start over, and create So Cal Integrative Wellness Center. Since 2008, Dr. Ed found his true calling when he started combining Naturopathic and Western medicine. He originally started as an individual cardiologist at San Antonio Community Hospital in 1985, and eventually formed the Inland Cardiology Medical Associate Group in the year 2000. He is board certified in Interventional Cardiology, Cardiovascular Diseases,and Internal Medicine. He performs cardiovascular procedures ranging from diagnostic to therapeutic interventions. He graduated from Kyunghee Medical school in Seoul, South Korea, studied at Vanderbilt Medical School in Nashville, and underwent his Internal Medicine Residency at Wright State Medical shool in Dayton Ohio.
